The Green Monster - Flour Girls Baking Company
I was in bit of a time crunch for lunch yesterday and did not want to resort to something fast on the go since, lets face it, things that are fast on the go are NOT good for you the majority of the time. Then I remembered I saw that Flour Girls Baking Company and Cafe now has smoothies. The perfect grab and go quick lunch to have while on the road.
I went with The Green Monster which seemed to me to be the healthiest option for me as it was made with almond milk, almond butter, flax seed, banana and spinach. You get your dose of fruit and veggies as well as dairy. Flax seed is great for your health as it is most popularly known to lower overall cholesterol levels especially LDL levels and to help prevent heart attacks. Newer studies on Flax Seed and now showing it may help in the prevention of cancer, specifically breast cancer, due to the fact that it is high in Lignan, which provides fiber to your body.
So next time you are in the Fairhaven, Ma area be sure to stop by and check out The Flour Girls!

Smoothie on the go!
So I recently moved and have been out of touch with cooking. We are now settled and back to cooking normally. With winter and Holidays fastly approaching I have decided to change my eating habits to prepare for those few extra pounds everyone seems to gain during the holidays! My main rule is to eat nothing white (with the exception of 1% or Almond milk and eggs), I can still eat rice, pasta and bread but they all have to be whole grain. Breakfast is the hardest meal for me as I wake up and go every morning with no time to eat. To make sure I get my morning nutrients I prepared the below breakfast smoothie this evening so it is ready to grab and go in the AM!
I like to mix up my fruits but for this one I used 2 banana's, 1 mango, 1 cup mango greek yogurt and almond milk. This cup also has a stirrer on the bottom to mix it up a little after sitting in the fridge all night. I found this awesome cup at my local Marshall's for only $3.99!
